A company called National Deed Service, Inc. has been sending notices to new homeowners offering a service to provide a “Certified Copy” of their deed for a fee of $59.50. We’ve received numerous calls from home buyers and their realtors regarding this notice.
It is NOT necessary for the home buyer to pay a fee for this service. The purchaser should receive the original recorded deed from the closing attorney within a couple of months of the closing. The purchaser can also request a copy of the deed from the closing attorney. Our firm policy is to provide a copy if the owner cannot locate the original.
