A bill has been introduced that would totally eliminate state income tax on the retirement income of Georgians 65 and older by 2013, according to Gov. Sonny Perdue’s office.
The bill will be sponsored in the legislature by State Reps. Rich Golick (R-Smyrna) and Larry O’Neal (R-Warner Robbins). Once completely phased in, the Senior Income Tax Credit will result in $142 million a year in tax relief, Perdue’s office said.

Atlanta-based Home Depot is launching its big hiring push for the year, with
plans to create 2,500 new positions in metro Atlanta stores and a total of
15,000 nationwide.
The chain added about the same number of store jobs last year, company
spokesman Tony Wilbert said. The increase in hiring is in addition to filling
existing jobs that come open during the year.
